FSSC 22000 & ISO 9001-2015


Monroeville, Alabama based company; Sterling Packaging LLC has achieved accreditation in FSSC 22000 from SAI Global, which is the most stringent scheme of the Global Food Safety Initiative, the firm announced on June 21, 2019. 


According to the registrar’s website; Sterling becomes one of three companies in the USA and Canada to attain this high level of quality and safety for producing folding cartons, says President Jim Hickson.  “Our goal by moving to Monroeville was to make Sterling the class leader when it comes to quality management and safety of food packaging.  We’ve reached that milestone, and we’re excited by the new opportunities this will bring our facility.”


Vice President Operations, Kelly Rasmussen adds; “What makes FSSC standard so much more stringent than other GFSI schemes is the combination of ISO 9001-2015 quality program in parallel with the GFSI recognized FSSC 22000.  It’s a very in-depth audit from the front office processes to production process areas and supply chain.  There isn’t an area of the business that isn’t touched or audited.  We are extremely proud of this accomplishment.”  


Mr. Leamon Lee, Quality Manager stated; “We knew we could attain this accreditation with hard work.  It’s a testament to the work put into the infrastructure, the training and the monitoring by our staff.  It’s a culmination of 16 months of work, and a collective 7,600 man hours of training, documentation, and cleaning.”  


Colin Hickson, Vice President Sales states; “This is a world class facility and we are extremely proud of what we’ve built here.  This accreditation allows us to grow exponentially in the coming months and we’ re even more excited by those limitless opportunities.  Having this accreditation will be the keystone to our long term success.  


Ivar Helgason, Operations Manager, shared; “This certificate tells the world we are ready; we supply high quality folding cartons, and we are food safe.  This is a great position for us to capitalize on, as industry has to catch-up to us, they can’t side-step these types of certifications.


Jim Hickson asks; “Can you imagine the leader in food safety packaging located here in Monroeville?  Management did, our partners did, this city council, this county and this state did.  This is the first affirmation of taking that belief and making it a reality.  We believed, we planned, we did the work and now we’ll continue to deliver on that promise for our customers, and shareholders.  This is the beginning of great things for us all!”
